Las Vegas renewed, but without two original cast members

NBC has renewed the show Las Vegas, despite rumors that this would be the final season. However, when the show returns next fall, it won’t include original cast members James Caan and Nikki Cox.

Caan wants to return to his first love: film, saying that he has missed “some great opportunities,” due to his schedule on Las Vegas.

“I've had a wonderful four years, worked with great people, and made friends for life working on Las Vegas, but I'm going to return to where my heart is, which is film,” Caan said in a statement to the press.

Cox’s departure was allegedly dictated by budget cuts, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

"I'm very sad and shocked," she said in a statement to the magazine. "I wish them all the best, and I had a great time working on the show."

Loyal Las Vegas viewers have seen Cox’s character, Mary, have less and less screen time the last two years, as her romance with the show’s leading man ended.

What are your thoughts on The Montecito surviving, without Big Ed at the helm?

UPDATE: I’ll be participating in a press conference call with Las Vegas star Molly Sims (Delinda Deline) and executive producer/creator Gary Scott Thompson on Tuesday, March 6. E-mail me at jennifer@tube-talk.com with any questions you have for them, and I’ll do my best to get them answered. Or simply leave your questions in the comments section of this post.

jen, can you please ask Molly/Gary if the previews are true and that Delinda is pregnant? And if so, how can they bring a baby into the mix of The Montecito? Vegas is no place for kids.

Ask Gary how they plan to go forward without James Caan, who has been the backbone of the show?

Could you as Gary if either Mike or Sam will get a permanent love interest next season?

Is Casey really dead? I won't believe it until I see the body.

Ask Gary what the real story is with Nikki Cox's departure. Is she leaving on her own or was she let go? Also, has the idea of guest appearances been discussed with her.

Please ask Mr. Thompson if there is any way he can get Nikki to make some guest apearances and hopefully give the girl with the heart of gold her happy ending- being with Danny.

How and why did Casey die? Ed was told he died via squid and Sam was told he was poisoned. He was a great character that went completely undeveloped.

Great catch in your blurb about "Mary" having fewer storylines. I'd like to know if there was a reason for that. And it doesn't sound like Nikki Cox was happy about her departure. There's a difference between saying "maybe it's time for me to move on" and being canned by the network like your character didn't matter. What's the real story?

It sounds like there might be some hurt feelings on Nikki Cox's part about being fired. If she doesn't return for at least one ep next year how does this affect the cliffhanger. Is the character of Mary "wrapped up" in the season finale or are we going to have this loose end dangling with some half-ass explanation.

Please ask Gary if it had ever been his intention to reunite Danny and Mary, or had that been abandoned for good.

Please ask Gary if there is any chance that Danny could go back to being a single guy with alot of different girls. It was always better that way.

I am so disappointed that he busted up Danny and Mary, reduced Nikki's screentime and then fired her.

Please ask him why he chose to do this when, even in the NBC chat in October, he asked Danny and Mary fans to "hang in there" and that they would be "pleasantly surprised."

I'd also like to know if Casey is really dead and if so..is Sam going to get a real love interest next season? I hope so.

Ask him why the heck he killed Casey Manning? He was so good with Sam and the rest of the boys. A giant squid?? UGHHHH!!!!

Jennifer, I think several here have hit on it, but if you're tallying votes or something to decide what to ask, I vote for the Dean Cain question. Is he really dead or is there any hope he'll return next season and show Sam what she's been missing?

Jennifer, forget the Casey question. He is old news. What the viewers want to know is what is the real story with Nikki Cox/Mary Connell. Is she staying or leaving. If she is leaving, who's idea was it.

Hi Jen. I'd love to know if either of LV's main recurring cast will therefore be put on contract, either Mitch Longley or Cheryl Ladd.

Hi, if possible I would like to know if they are serious about having Nikki come back for a few guest appearances, and if so, is she willing. I love her with Danny. Thanks in advance.

Could you ask Molly "What is her favorite season four episode"?

I love Sam and Delinda's friendship, can you ask Molly if we will get to see any good stories involving them?

Thanks everyone for commenting or e-mailing such great questions. Hopefully, we'll be able to get some answers. Check back later for the story. Thanks again!

Is Mitch Longley going to have a greater part. More substance to his role would be nice.
