Bob Barker fans, CBS wants you to make a video saying farewell to the longtime host of The Price is Right. Barker is retiring after 35 years from the popular game show.
CBS is asking fans to upload their 15-second farewell videos to You Tube. CBS will select five videos from the “15 Seconds on CBS” You Tube group and post them on CBS.com. These videos will qualify to run on national television. The details are at CBS.com.
Click here to watch Neil Patrick Harris explain the rules.
In related news, Barker will appear on Harris’ show How I Met Your Mother on Monday, April 30. From the clip at CBS, it appears that Barney is a contestant on The Price is Right. (I hope someone warned the models.)

I’ve seen clips from tonight’s show, and it’s a must see for any How I Met Your Mother fan. As Tube Talk Girl, it’s my duty to remind you when funny TV shows hit the air, as it happens so rarely these days.
Here’s the official description from CBS. But really, what more do you need to know than Barney and a bachelor party?
After Barney ruins Marshall's bachelor party plans, Lily reveals a shocking secret about Barney that causes Marshall to rethink who his best man should be.

“Thank God You’re Here” premieres tonight
If you like improv comedy shows, then you may want to catch NBC’s new show Thank God You’re Here, premiering tonight at 9 p.m. EST.
Here’s the premise: Celebrity actors walk into a live comedy sketch, without a script. They must improvise their way through the skit to entertain us.
“Their only armor and motivation is an unforeseen and unexplained wardrobe change. The only thing the celebrity can count on, when walking into the scenario, is a desperate greeting from a fellow actor in the skit, proclaiming upon their arrival, ‘Thank God You're Here!’” according to the press release. Sound like fun.
The show host is David Alan Grier.
Some funny comedians and interesting guest stars are attached to this project, including Dave Foley, Kevin Nealon, Bill Bellamy, Wendie Malick, Tom Arnold, Fran Dresher, Fred Willard, Angela Kinsey, Jason Alexander and Jennifer Coolidge.
Word has it that Jerry Springer will make a surprise appearance in an upcoming episode.
The show will eventually settle in to a Wednesday 8 p.m. EST timeslot beginning April 18, but not before airing one more Monday, April 16 at 9 p.m. EST. (I know. I don’t get it either. I’ve given up trying to figure out NBC’s scheduling.)
I haven’t seen a screener of the show, so I can’t give you a review, but the publicity photos sure make me want to watch.

The O.C. and One Tree Hill head to Soapnet tonight
Are you missing Seth Cohen or Nathan Scott? Or perhaps you’ve never heard of Chrismakkuh or Tree Hill High School?
If so, now is your chance to watch two outstanding series, The O.C. and One Tree Hill, from the beginning.
Both shows debut on SOAPnet tonight, Monday, April 9, so set your TiVos and VCRs. One Tree Hill will air at 5 p.m. EST Monday-Friday, followed by The O.C. at 6 p.m.
SOAPnet will show all four seasons of both shows. Can I get a “woo-hoo?”
If you’ve never watched either show, check them out and see what everyone has been talking about for the past few years. If you’ve seen the shows, but can’t remember the first time we met Ryan and his wife-beater tank or Lucas and his literary obsession, then don’t miss the debut tonight of two of the most fun dramas on the tube.
For those of you new to The O.C. and Tree Hill, here’s some background to get you started:
The O.C. — A wealthy public defender takes in an abused kid from the streets of Chino. The move forever changing the lives of Sandy Cohen’s friends and family, who live in the affluent, oceanside Newport Beach community. Cohen’s “adorkable” son, Seth, quickly bonds with Ryan as a brother. The beautiful girl next door, Marissa, also takes an interest in the new guy in town, much to the chagrin of her water-polo playing boyfriend. Throw in some family love, teen angst, beautiful people and fun pop-culture references, and this drama has humor, heart and soul that shouldn’t be missed. The show stars Peter Gallagher, Kelly Rowan, Ben McKenzie, Mischa Barton, Adam Brody, Melinda Clarke, Rachel Bilson, Tate Donovan, Autumn Reeser, Willa Holland, Alan Dale and Chris Carmack.
One Tree Hill — In a small North Carolina town, (that looks suspiciously like Dawson’s Capseside,) two estranged half brothers carry on very different lives. Basketball prodigy Nathan Scott has inherited the throne of high-school popularity once held by his father, Dan. While Lucas Scott, also a talented player, stays an outsider. Spending nights shooting hoops on a riverfront court, Lucas remains the son Dan never acknowledged. Now, Lucas and Nathan's paths intersect for the first time, and in the crossroads stands Peyton Sawyer, Nathan's beautiful, edgy girlfriend who just may have more in common with Lucas. Throw in the quiet animosity between Dan and his brother, Keith, along with Lucas' mother, Karen — all of whom must cope with the aftermath of their choices—and something has to give. The show has some great literary references, too, as Lucas often shares quotes from his favorite writers. One Tree Hill stars Chad Michael Murray, James Lafferty, Hilarie Burton, Bethany Joy Galeotti, Paul Johansson, Sophia Bush, Barbara Alyn Woods, Lee Norris, Barry Corbin, Craig Sheffer and Moira Kelly.

Scrubs death: Goodbye Laverne
Photo: NBC, Judy Reyes (l) and Aloma Wright (r)
For six seasons, Laverne was the wisecracking nurse at Sacred Heart Hospital who kept Dr. Cox in check, rolled her eyes at J.D. and Turk’s “guy love” and was the voice of reason to the sometimes-volatile Carla. This week, Laverne teetered at death’s door, comatose from a car accident. The staff came one by one to say their goodbyes, as Laverne, herself, “haunted” Carla through the hallways to help her deal with the loss.
I’m in shock that the Scrubs folks killed our beloved Laverne. And I must ask, “Why?”
We should have known she was destined for the dirt nap. The signs were there. A few weeks ago she argued vehemently with Dr. Cox about the existence of God and that everything happens for a reason. Despite that Cox spent the entire show trying to prove her wrong, Laverne held strong in her faith.
Then, as she went home one night from work, she was killed in a car accident faster than you can say “Mrs. Landingham” from The West Wing. Sniff. Sniff.
Laverne, you will be missed. Rest in peace.

TV stars on the big screen
Coming soon to a theater near you: Stars from your favorite TV shows.
Chances are if you go to the movie theater in the next few weeks, you’ll catch a glimpse of The Office’s Pam Beesly, Jim Halpert, or Dwight Schrute. Or you may see Scrubs’ J.D., Arrested Development’s Michael Bluth, or Nip/Tuck's Christian Troy. All the actors who play those roles on the small screen now have movies playing on or coming to the big screen. (Check out IMDB to find the current films for each actor.)
TV stars are landing movie projects so frequently now that it’s difficult to find a big-screen project that doesn’t somehow have TV ties. And that makes me happy. It seems the film world has finally noticed the excellence happening on television and is tapping the talent. I can’t say I blame them. Most respected film actors started on the small screen, from Leonardo DiCaprio (Growing Pains) to Brad Pitt (Dallas) to George Clooney (ER.)
Years ago, TV stars rarely got film opportunities, as television was thought of as the bastard stepchild of “serious” actors. Now, flip through the TV dial on any given night, and you’ll find a cornucopia of Hollywood heavyweights, including such names as Glenn Close, Gary Sinese, James Caan, Forest Whitaker, James Spader, Kiefer Sutherland, Alec Baldwin and Rob Lowe.
I stand by my conviction that 80 percent of what is on the tube is better than what’s showing at the local Cineplex. I’m grateful that actors from our favorite shows are getting the chance to make their magic on the big screen, too.
To further prove my point, check out this outrageously funny clip of Scrubs star Zach Braff’s new movie The Ex, that also stars TV-funny guy Jason Bateman. Braff introduces the clip with an intro and a shout-out to his favorite American Idol contestant. The film hits theaters May 11. Mark you calendars.

American Idol: The red streak ends
by guest bloggers Becky Tennant and Bethany O’Neil
Last night on American Idol, we bid adieu to Gina Glockson, the rocker chick with the tongue piercing and red streaks in her hair. And while we figured she wouldn’t be the next American Idol, we definitely think she has way more talent than the other gal in the bottom, Haley.
However, with the way the show is going this year, it wasn’t a surprising night. Haley, while not the best singer in the bunch, has got legs that Gina just doesn’t have. Sorry to put it so bluntly; but it’s the truth. We just hope that Randy, Paula, and Simon give her some attitude next week, because she was so rude to them.
On a high point, Michael Buble showed up and sang a song from his new album, due out next month. WE LOVE HIM! It would have been nice to hear him sing “Home,” though. He seemed a bit out of sorts, but we’ll take what we can get from him. (Michael, call us, we would love to interview you sometime.)
Maybe over the next few days certain Idol hopefuls will take a step back, re-evaluate why they were picked for the show, and actually try to sing and put on a great performance next week. It's about time. We deserve something.
On a side note, we’re really looking forward to the big “Idol gives back show.” It seems to be a decent thing they are doing, and it’s for a good cause.
Until next week...

NBC renews 30 Rock, no word yet on “Lights” or “Studio 60”
The NBC comedy 30 Rock, starring Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin will rock on next season.
The network renewed the show for another season.
The show averages about 6 millions viewers per week. Surprisingly, that was enough to keep it on the air. The show draws a decent rating in the 18-49 demographic and also does well in households with six-figure incomes, demographics that advertisers seek.
I watched the first two episodes of 30 Rock and that was enough for me. Readers tell me it improved vastly as time went by, so perhaps I’ll have to tune back in. Nevertheless, I know the show has a big fan following, so “woo-hoo” for you guys.
Frankly, I’m more concerned with the fate of my beloved Friday Night Lights and the show I’ve grown to enjoy, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip.
No word yet on whether they’ll return next season. Fingers crossed, Tubers!

Charity auction offers visits to popular TV-show sets
If you’ve ever wanted to the visit the set of Boston Legal, 24, House or other popular shows, then get out your wallet. The folks over at Charity Buzz are offering chances to visit the sets of several TV shows as part of the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Auction.
The auction closes on April 6, this Friday. So hurry.
Some of the lots up for bid include a walk-on-role on Desperate Housewives, lunch with Alan Alda, tickets to Oprah and a photo with the talk-show host, a tour of the All My Children set with Susan Lucci, and a chance to play tennis with John McEnroe. From sporting events to fashion events to hanging with celebrities, this auction seems to have it all for those who love television and popular culture.
Be warned, though. This auction isn’t for those of you on a Ramen-Noodle budget. You’ll probably have to be a celebrity, or at least earn that kind of income, to participate in this auction. I was beyond excited at the prospect of actually winning a shot to visit the Boston Legal set and share a cigar with Denny Crane himself. (Yes, that’s part of the package.) Then, I saw it would cost me $6,500 to place a bid, and the prize was valued at $30,000. Ouch.
The bidding for a visit to the House set to hang out with Hugh Laurie and cast had reached $16,000 by 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. In contrast, the set visit to 24 seemed a bargain, at just $5,500. And the top bid for a set visit to The Young and the Restless was a complete steal, with the high bid at $1,350.
The money is for charity; so if you’ve got the cash, why not make a bid. Those of you lucky enough to win, please report back here to Tube Talk with your photos and stories, and I’ll be sure to post them, so we can at least live vicariously.

Around the web
TV Squad has a fun feature on the “The Greatest TV Drinkeries.” I was deliriously happy and surprised to see The Boar’s Nest and the Regal Beagle on the list, next to Cheers, Moe’s Tavern and The Peach Pit. My only complaint is that Java the Hut from Veronica Mars should have scored more than an honorable mention.
The N network has extended its game “You Stay Up We Pay Up” until Friday, April 6. That means more chances to win a $1,000 hourly from 9 p.m.-3 a.m. EST. Here’s the original story with all the details.
An Office convention in Scranton? The folks in the real Scranton want to plan a convention for fans of The Office to tour the town’s TV-familiar landmarks and possibly hobnob with the cast.
Bloggers tour the set of Supernatural. Several bloggers were lucky enough to visit the set of the CW series Supernatural. Check out the full report from Rae at Ramblings of a TV Whore, along with links to the other bloggers reports.
If you love classic TV, then head on over to the Classic TV Blog. I just found this site, and it’s a lot of fun. Check out the post on the Dukes of Hazzard stars getting the boot from a performance with the Cincinnati Pops due to complaints that this beloved show was too racist.

Dancing With the Stars: So Long Shandi!
In a travesty of Master P proportions, Shandi Finnessey was sent home from Dancing With the Stars last night.
Despite that she danced better than Clyde Drexler and Leeza Gibbons, the former Miss USA didn’t have the votes required to keep her in the popularity/dancing contest.
Shandi and Paulina Porizkova were both booted before other dancers, who didn’t have their talent. That makes me think the rules on this game need to change. Fast. Perhaps the judges’ marks need to hold much more weight, so that the callers’ votes don’t send home decent dancers.
As for the performances this week, my man Ian Ziering was robbed of high marks due to one lousy misstep. His jive was sensational and deserved nines, despite that small error, especially when the judges were giving away eights to dancers who didn’t deserve them.
Billy Ray Cyrus is still the most entertaining of the bunch. How can you not love the adorable, former mullet-wearing star? If the show was a beauty pageant, he’d win the Miss Congeniality award. He’s so funny and likeable, that even though he’s not the best dancer, I think he’ll be staying for a few weeks.
I hope Leeza and Clyde are the next to go.

American Idol: Sanjaya’s Big Pimpin’
by Becky Tennant and Bethany O’Neil
Another evening of American Idol, and our only comment of the evening is, “Sanjaya, Big Pimpin’ or Big Looser?”
OK, that isn’t our only comment, but it was funny. And how should we respond to his latest antics? The guy had slicked-down hair and a white suit. We were waiting for him to belt out Staying Alive, by the Bee Gees, and do the John Travolta pelvic thrust.
As Paula said “is this American Idol or Dancing with the Stars?”
We are going to go the Simon route and say, “WOW he was just incredible!” He probably wont be going home tonight either. We’re dealing with this whole debacle with humor, which is our only coping mechanism right now.
As we’ve stated before he is probably a real nice kid. He just makes it so easy for people to poke fun at him.
Back to the recap, last night was Tony Bennett night on Idol, and even though we love Tony Bennett and give him the utmost respect, the man is 80 and should be hitting up a golf course, instead of American Idol. Loved the gold jacket though.
Blake was in his territory last night, as well as Melinda, Lakisha, Chris and our girl Jordin. We are predicting that Jordin might take this all the way. That is if Sanjaya gets the boot.
As for Gina, Phil and Haley, they did not have a good night.
Phil’s heartfelt love song geared to his wife went OK, but it didn’t do much for the judges. How can we say this delicately…. "Phil if you are going to keep on shaving your head, you need a good eyebrow wax.”
Gina just was out of her comfort zone, and Haley, well, at least the judges think she looks good.
Will Sanjaya be sent home tonight and devastate the “Fanjayas” around the world? Or will his millions of preteen girls pull him through another week?
We’ll be back tomorrow to let you know.

Lost sneak peek
Lost spoiler phobes, stop reading now.
Those of you who can't wait for Lost, check out MeeVee's sneak peek clip of Wednesday’s show. Not only does the clip make me curious, but the episode description is enough to make anyone tune in.
Kate is betrayed by one of her fellow survivors, and Hurley warns Sawyer that he may be voted off the island. Sounds like a good time to me!
Catch Lost at 10 p.m. ET on ABC. And no, I don’t work for ABC.

Tom Selleck returns to TV as Jesse Stone
I know many of you don’t understand my love for all things Magnum, P.I. um, Tom Selleck. (Yeah, yeah, I know he’s an actual actor who just played a part.) Anyway, my devotion continues to this day, whether he’s singing on Boston Legal as Shirley’s ex-husband or battling the booze in the Jesse Stone made-for-TV movies.
The latest TV installment of the popular Jesse Stone series is scheduled to air May 20 on CBS, according to TV Guide. Jesse Stone: Sea Change finds Stone a year sober and “tentatively reunited with his ex-wife, Jenn,” according to Publishers Weekly.
Selleck has starred in three previous Jesse Stone films, which follow the life of the former Los Angeles cop who seeks justice, while battling his own demons.
Those of you who still don’t get my Selleck fixation, I challenge you to watch an episode of Magnum P.I., now in syndication, and not end up loving the mustache man. Magnum P.I. airs on WGN, out of Chicago, at 10 a.m. weekdays and on Sleuth at 7 p.m. and 1 a.m.
As for the highly anticipated Magnum movie for the big screen, I know nothing. Last year, rumors were rampant that Matthew McConaughey was set to step into the trademark Hawaiian shirt and Detroit Tigers cap for the title role, but I’ve found nothing to confirm that. Frankly, if Hollywood assassinates the Magnum story the way it did Miami Vice, Starsky and Hutch and Charlie’s Angels, I’d rather they just leave it alone.
Selleck fans, meanwhile, can get their fix through Jesse Stone and the syndicated reruns of the beloved Magnum P.I.

Networks announce cancellations
The networks have been busy this week handing out cancellation orders.
NBC silenced the mob drama The Black Donnellys. It’s unclear if the show will continue airing throughout April, or if it will just disappear in true mob fashion.
FOX canned the David E. Kelley romantic comedy The Wedding Bells. Yes, that was quick. But, hey, it lasted longer than Britney Spears’ first marriage.
ABC once again yanked the snooze fest known as Six Degrees. Let’s hope it sticks this time.
And finally, the CW announced that this is the final season of 7th Heaven. Yes, I know, we’ve heard it before. But, this time, they mean it.

"The TV Set" gives a humorous inside look at making TV shows
If you’ve ever wondered why great TV shows sometimes get cancelled or why shows such as Cop Rock ever make it on the air at all, then you don’t want to miss the new film The TV Set, opening April 6 in a theater near you.
I don’t often talk about films here, as this is a TV site. But, when it’s a film about “the sausage making involved in the TV pilot process,” well, the rules change.
Here’s why you should see this film: Jake Kasdan directed and Judd Apatow produced. Kasdan and Apatow were two of the creative minds behind Freaks and Geeks, one of the funniest TV shows ever made. Kasdan has said that film’s script is somewhat based on his experiences with Freaks and Geeks and the networks. So, we might actually get an inside look as to why the network fools cancelled such a brilliant show, before it had the chance to become a ratings winner. (Regular Tube Talk readers know my obsessive love for Freaks and Geeks and that I’ve never really gotten over my unrelenting anger that the show was cancelled so quickly.)
The TV Set has an impressive cast and some familiar TV faces: David Duchovny, Sigourney Weaver, Ioan Gruffudd, and Justine Bateman, to name a few. It also has a hilarious promotion tag: “The place where dreams are cancelled.”
Here’s the official description for the film:
A hair-raising comedy of art and compromise, THE TV SET follows an idealistic writer (Duchovny) as he tries to navigate his TV pilot down the mine-laden path from script through production, to the madness of prime-time scheduling – all while trying to stay true to his vision. Along the way, he has to juggle the agendas of a headstrong network president (Weaver), volatile young stars, a pregnant wife, and an ever-optimistic personal manager.
For more information on The TV Set, check out the official Web site
and check out the video trailer below.

Tube News: Bill Clinton’s favorite TV shows, Punk’d, Jenna Fischer and Kelly Monaco
Bill Clinton’s favorite TV shows
Former President Bill Clinton loves Grey’s Anatomy and Boston Legal. Clinton told advertisers at the TV Land upfront presentation recently that his favorite current TV show is Grey’s Anatomy. He also enjoys Boston Legal for the “dynamic between William Shatner and James Spader.” Clinton said of the Denny Crane/Alan Shore relationship, “It's something to behold.” I find his choice of shows interesting for two reasons: Grey’s Anatomy is a medical drama about doctors whose libidos often dictate their actions. And Boston Legal is a show that ends each week with William Shatner and James Spader smoking cigars on the balcony. Hey, I’m not judging. I’m just saying.
Punk’d returns April 10
Those of you who like seeing celebrities lose it when they’re the targets of a prank, get ready for the final season of Punk’d, beginning Tuesday, April 10, at 9 p.m. EST on MTV. Some familiar faces getting Punk’d this season are Hilary Swank, Magic Johnson, Evangeline Lilly, Ashley Tisdale and JoJo, according to the MTV press release. In the season premiere, viewers can watch as Ashton and crew take aim on Nelly Furtado, Hayden Panetierre, and Bucky Lasek. Additional celebrities being targeted this season include, Molly Simms, Kelly Rowland, Zac Efron, Kelis, Jewel, Chuck Liddell, and John Cena in “some of the most hilarious and elaborate pranks ever unveiled.” In a tribute to the final season, Ashton will host a special Punk’d Awards honoring all eight seasons from “Best Destruction” to “Celebrities Gone Wild” on Thursday, June 5 at 9 p.m. EST. For those who can’t get enough of Punk’d, check out the Web site for a chance to meet the cast, episode guides, weekly photos, videos and more.
Jenna Fischer poses nude
Jenna Fischer, who plays Pam on the NBC show The Office, has posed nude for the cover of the April issue of Wired magazine. Before you get too excited, you should know that her naughty bits are tastefully hidden behind white signs that she's holding. Wired magazine insists the cover isn’t a cheap marketing ploy, but rather a metahpor for that issue’s stories about “radical transparency,” which is apparently the notion that the next sucessessful busines model is “laying your company bare to the world and sharing your corporate secrets with your rivals, blogging about ideas as you have them, and copping to fumbles and foibles as you make them.” In other words, transparency equals nakedness. I’m sure all that that won’t matter to most of America, who probably will be reading Wired for the first time ever. Quick, someone send Jim Halpert a copy.
Kelly Monaco headed to Football Wives
Dancing With the Stars alumnus Kelly Monaco, who currently stars on the ABC daytime drama General Hospital is set to guest star on the new ABC show Football Wives, according to Soap Opera Digest. Football Wives is a new pilot for ABC starring James Van Der Beek and Eddie Cibrian. The show also stars Gabrielle Union, Lucy Lawless, Holly Robinson Peete and Kiele Sanchez.
