Commentary with a Co-Ed: Upcoming Fall Premieres

As the summer winds down and the new fall TV season is beginning to start, (yay!) this tube junkie is not complaining at all. The first two weeks of September are already looking better than a shirtless Sawyer. OK, so maybe I’m exaggerating a little, but the new season looks extremely promising with some returning favorites. Here are my choices for must-see-fall TV.

One Tree Hill Season Premiere date: September 1.
This time last year I was concerned for this show’s future. I wasn’t sure they were going to be able to pull off the four-year jump into the future. But they did, and now they’re back for season six. I know the big question on every fan’s mind is, ‘Who did Lucas call?’ I’m wondering that myself. My guess is Peyton, but I could be wrong. Place your bets in the comments! Check back next week with my review of the premiere to see if you were right. Plus, did Dan die after he was hit by the car? Stay tuned.



America’s Next Top Model Season Premiere date: September 3.
I have to admit that this show keeps me hooked every season. It’s definitely a guilty pleasure that has just the right amount of fun and fashion with occasional model drama thrown in. Last season, or cycle, was exciting because my pick actually won the competition. Whitney became the first plus-size model to win this show. It was about time! This season promises to be interesting with the first transgender model to enter the competition. The girls are also headed back to L.A. and leaving New York City. Hopefully, with the city change they will also change the Tyra Mail back to its original form. The new version was really annoying.

Prison Break Season Premiere date: September 1.
If you were like me and dropped this show like a hot potato last season after they killed off Dr. Sara, then you might want to reconsider. Trust me. This show is pulling me back into it for a second chance. I hope it doesn’t disappoint. It seems like this season is focusing more on staying out of prison rather than breaking out. I think that’s going to be a good change in dynamic for the show.

Gossip Girl Season Premiere date: September 1.

I’ve seen the first three episodes of the new season, and you MUST watch. Period. The gang kicks off the season in The Hamptons, and it’s as beautiful as it is entertaining. It reminded me of Gatsby. The people are beautiful and the plot is delicious. And I absolutely fell in love with the souvenir Blair brought home. (Think tall, dark and handsome with a wicked accent.) I wasn’t exactly Gossip Girl’s biggest cheerleader last year. I watched, mostly to hear Kristen Bell’s snarky Gossip Girl comments, but it wasn’t must-see for me. This year, however, I’m hooked. The show has upped its game and by extension my interest.



Bones Season Premiere date: September 3.

Last season, the revelation that Zack was a psychopath shocked even the savviest TV junkie (myself included.) I’m still steamed that sweet Zack won’t be in the lab with the gang this year. But, the two-hour season premiere may go a long way in assuaging my anger. Bones and Booth travel to London and team up with Scotland Yard to solve a case, as Angela’s husband finally surfaces back in D.C.

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles Season Premiere date: September 8.
I absolutely love this show. It only had nine episodes to make up its first season but it was enough to make me want to watch season two. I’m dying to find out what happened to Cameron after the explosion. Will Cromartie find John? For my birthday last week I received the complete first season on DVD. I highly recommend adding it to your collection. It’s a couple of hours of amazing television. Here’s a sneak peek at the season premiere. Check it out.

Commentary with a Co-Ed: Nightshift entertains

I am still loving General Hospital’s Nightshift, especially now since Robert Scorpio has returned to Port Charles.

It’s always great to see old favorites return to their roots. Now all we need is Luke and Anna to make an appearance and it will be perfect for me. But I’ll take what I can get.

However, as much as I love Robert Scorpio he did cross the line by trying to plant seeds of doubt in Robin’s head. Love you Robert, but if you go up against Patrick you’re going to lose. At least in my eyes. He tried to get Robin to reconsider having Patrick in her life. He was telling her that Patrick was only going to break her heart. I would have agreed with him at one time. But ever since Robin became pregnant Patrick has done a complete 180. He really stepped up and became a better man for her. So if I were Robin I’d tell her Papa to back off a little bit.

As much as I love Billy Dee Williams as Touissant I have to wonder if having him hook up with Epiphany is a good idea. Right now I feel his character doesn’t have the same appeal as it did in the first season. I liked it better when he was giving out sage advice to the people of Port Charles. But if they are going to go in that direction with him and Nurse Epiphany then I say do it right. Try to give them enough screen time for the characters to develop a deeper connection.

I admire that Nightshift is doing an autism storyline with Jagger’s son, Stone. Days of our Lives has recently done it as well with Abe and Lexie’s son. I think it’s interesting to see Jagger reaction to having his son diagnosed with Autism. It’s something that many parents are facing today. This helps to bring more of reality to soap operas which are always nice.

How much do I dislike Dr. Julian this season? Let me count the ways. I knew where all the angry banter was heading between him and the new woman doctor. I mean, did anyone not see that coming? This season the writers have made Dr. Julian really arrogant and sometimes bordering obnoxious. For some reason I never found him that annoying in the first season. I would almost like to see the new doc go out with Jagger. Now that would be interesting.

Technical problem

Hi Tubers. I’m still on maternity leave, battling sleepness nights and am knee deep in bottles, binkies, and burpies. I apologize for the fact that for the last week, Tube Talk has not been displaying correctly.

I’ve been on the phone and e-mailing with my hosting company, but they still haven’t fixed the problem, much to my dismay. I hope to get it resolved soon.

Sorry for the inconvenience. Believe me, it’s as frustrating for me as it is you.

I hope to get the site returned to normal soon. Meanwhile, I hope you’re enjoying the new seasons of Psych, Monk and Mad Men.

Commentary with a Co-Ed: Big Brother

My favorite summer guilty pleasure is in full swing. No, I’m not talking about the Greatest American Dog show. I’m talking about Big Brother. Wohoo! Last night was the third eviction of the tenth season. Houseguests Angie and Jessie each had one foot out the door this week. My money was on Jessie to go home. But in the end, Angie was the one who got the boot. I think this just proves that most of the time personal matters get in the way of playing the game.

I think it was a dumb move for the house to vote out Angie. Granted, she was aligned with who I believe to be the strongest players. But individually she wasn’t much of a threat, especially sitting next to Jessie. I know that Jessie has an ego the size of Texas, but he is a strong physical player. I think his team up with Memphis will get him really far in the game.

If I had to pick someone who I wanted to make it far in the game it would be Michelle. I think she’s a strong competitor and can hold her own against the guys in the house. She’s from New England (like me!) and she’s Portuguese, like me, too. She’s my pick to win it. Memphis is my second choice. I think if he plays his cards right he could possibly take it all in the end.

Besides the live eviction we also saw the houseguests’ reactions to the earthquake that shook the Los Angeles area this week. I have thankfully never been in an earthquake so my reaction would have pretty much resembled Michelle’s. Over here on the East coast we have hurricanes and blizzards, not earthquakes. That’s just scary.

We also learned that Big Brother decided to bring back America’s Player. I don’t know how I feel about this. The first time they did this on a previous season Eric was the one they chose to represent America. I think being America’s Player jeopardized Eric’s game tremendously. It got to the point where because people didn’t like him they voted for him to do things purposely to mess up his game. Now America has chosen Dan to be America’s Player, but only for one week. I think Dan could probably pull it off without anyone catching on.

This next head of household competition is crucial so, of course, they made it an endurance one. The last time we saw the houseguests they were hanging on a ledge hoping to grasp the HoH title. We’ll have to wait and see on Sunday night who won it. I have a feeling Libra is going to hold on for dear life because she feels her days are numbered in the house. That’s a smart move.
