Casting Ryan Walker on Brothers & Sisters

by Jennifer Squires Biller

In the shocking season finale of Brothers & Sisters, it was revealed that another Walker child exists. That William Walker sure was a busy guy who apparently never met a condom he liked.

As soon as the name Ryan Walker was mentioned, I began mentally casting the part from my living room lazy chair. I thought of Joshua Jackson, but he’s now on board as the lead in the new J.J. Abrams show Fringe.

Then, I thought about Josh Duhamel, coming off the canceled Las Vegas. But realistically, Duhamel is probably going to stick full time to films now, considering his success with Transformers and all the buzz surrounding his new movie with Kristen Bell.

I know many of you are lobbying for Gregory Smith, of Everwood fame, to snag the coveted role of Ryan Walker. But, I’m going in a different direction.

I think the role should go to…. drum roll please…Matt Long.

You’re probably saying, “Who?”

Long’s career in television was short but memorable. The 10 people besides myself, who actually watched the WB show Jack and Bobby, are familiar with Long. He played the role of Jack McCallister with such a quiet elegance that I’ve never forgotten him. He’s one of those actors that just draw you in from the moment he enters the scene.

Long even looks like a Walker. He closely resembles Dave Annable (Justin,) whose character is currently lusting for Rebecca. I think Long could give Justin a little competition and make the most deliciously complex family in television even better.

What do you think, Tubers? Are you familiar with Long? If so, do you think he should be Ryan Walker, or do you have someone else in mind? Share your thoughts in the comments below!

Wow, brilliant choice Tube Talk Girl. I never thought of him. I was one of the "10 people" who watched Jack & Bobby and you're right. He was awesome. He's be perfect and brooding. He's got my vote. I just hope ABC casting sees this post!

Now that Moonlight is cancelled I think Jason Dohring would be a good choice. I loved him on Veronica Mars.

Adam Brody would be great. But he may be doing film stuff now too. Wasn't it rumored that all the O.C. kids wanted out of TV to do films? I think I read that somewhere.

I want gregory smith because of the everwood connection to emily (Rebecca).

I do like Matt Long but I, like britney29, want Jason Dohring in the role. And I'll admit it's mostly because I want to see him acting opposite Sally Field but I do think he'd fit in as a Walker.

Hey Rae! As you know, I've enjoyed Jason since his Veronica days, too, so I wouldn't be upset if he snagged the part either!

Matt Long definitely looks like a "Walker" so he'd be a good fit. But I've never seen him in anything so I'm voting for Jason Dohring. I miss his cleverness on VM and I think he could bring that to B/S.

I was also one of the ten who watched Jack & Bobby (which was canceled WAY before its time, in my opinion). You are absolutely correct; Matt Long is perfect. I was thinking Gregory Smith - mainly because of the Everwood connection - but this is even better!

Robin, Jack and Bobby got a raw deal. That show was EXCELLENT. I still mourn it. Matt Long needs to be back on TV. He's so talented and I think he'd be an excellent fit for this part!

I can't think of a better choice than MATT LONG. And Greg Berlanti is def familiar with him, having produced "Jack & Bobby," a masterpiece series.

All you folks whining & pining for Jason Dohring...the dude is not even attractive, and speaks with some sort of impediment. He wouldn't fit in with the Walkers at all.

No, MATT LONG is the odds-on favorite. Let's get this ball rollin'!!!!

(2nd choice for the role: Jason Castro)

I forgot the Berlanti connection. YES!!!! Please, Greg, get Matt. He could so own this role.

Apparently, "anonymous" you're not a fan of Jason Dohring. That's OK, but you shouldn't insult him. I do agree with you though that I don't really see Jason Dohring fitting into that role very well. He doesn't seem right for the part. He just doesn't seem like Walker material

I love Jason, but I think Tube Talk Girl is right on. MATT LONG would be perfect for this role. Brilliant casting suggestion. Please ABC listen to her. He even looks like a Walker and like "anonymous" said, he would fit in with the gang.

I too love Matt Long but he's been nabbed for another pilot:

UNTITLED DAVID HEMINGSON PROJECT (ABC)

DESCRIPTION:
(from ABC's press release) In the cutthroat legal profession, Dylan Hewitt is a real rarity: a nice guy. Against his better instincts, he's taken his first job out of law school at L.A.'s toughest firm: Sterling, Huddle, Oppenheim, and Craft—the kind of place where they eat opposing counsel for breakfast and each other for lunch. Dylan shows up early on his first day and discovers he's actually late—10 days late—a fact that his new boss Cliff will never forgive. Because of that, Rowdy, the freewheeling recruiter who promised Dylan the world, is giving him the brush-off. Has Dylan grabbed the opportunity of a lifetime—or signed a deal with the devil? Though the firm isn't exactly a nurturing haven, there's no shortage of excitement. The firm's colorful clients include entrepreneurial porn stars and corporate raiders with GPS-implanted testicles. Fellow associate Liam, quite the ladies' man, finds himself turned on by his boss Susan, who's also Cliff's bickering wife. Cheerful, homespun Addy doesn't think twice about throwing lone wolf Beth under the bus to nab a better job with eccentric partner Lou. And when Dylan finds comfort in the arms of receptionist Tanya, the firm's only other decent human being, he doesn't know he's stealing Cliff's personal property... Equal parts Entourage, Melrose Place and L.A. Law, the legal procedural combines realistic proceedings with romance, intrigue, and plenty of laughs in colorful cases each week. There's plenty of evidence for Dylan to realize that to succeed as an attorney... he'll have to take the law into his own hands. Based on the real-life experiences of writer/creator David Hemingson (How I Met Your Mother co-executive producer).

I love and I miss Jack and Bobby! Good casting choice. I want Ryan "Walker" to look like the other boys. It would be so fitting. And I hope to god they do a paternity test!

I was also thinking of David Giuntoli. He's not well known but he was fantastic in an episode of Grey's Anatomy. Here's a picture: http://www.imdb.com/media/rm3597897984/nm1365912

It's surely an internet rumor, but I've heard rustlings about Tom Pelphrey being as possibility for the part of Ryan. Now, as a HUGE Tom Pelphrey fan, I would love for this to be true.

Well the actor I mentioned, in an earlier post, has a role on Privileged (as the character Jacob) but I still want him to play Ryan. I just feel he would be perfect!

My second choice would be Matt Long. He's a great suggestion.

I have a new candidate . . . Matthew Cohen. I saw him on the lastest episode of Supernatural and immediately thought of Ryan Walker. Here is his imdb page: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1959563/

Anonymous are you insane ? Jason Dohring not attractive ? Have you ever seen him or what ? Take a look on Moonlight and you see if he is not sexy and attractive (though Moonlight is not a very good show) and his a far better actor than Josh Duhamel, Joshua Jackson and co.
He is the same level as Ryan Gosling,Joseph Gordon Levitt : subtil acting...you miss something.
