Idol Chatter: The next American Idol is...

by Becky Tennant and Bethany O'Neil

If case you haven't already heard, our man David Cook was crowned "American Idol" last night. And we are just too excited for words. Finally, the American public has chosen someone who isn't just a good singer, but the complete package. We were astounded by the record number of votes cast, 97.5 million, and even more astounded that Cook took the honors by a huge 12 million votes! We thought it would be so much closer than that. David Archuletta has a huge following, but apparently David Cook's is bigger!

The winning moment was really something, that, and the fact that Simon apologized for being a jerk, made for a great ending of the season. When David Cook won, the look on Simon's face was priceless. We loved it!

In the same way we are excited about Cook's win, we’re also a bit down about it, too. We’re just afraid that he will fall to the same fate as several of the previous Idol winners. With the exceptions of Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood, the other winners have not had success in the mainstream music arena. Jordin Sparks has begun to gain in popularity a bit, but we are sure it isn't as quickly as the Idol producers would have liked. And let’s not forget that the whole American Idol buzz has really died down over the past couple of years. We just hope that the producers let David show how creative and talented he is on his record. If they can do that, then he will be a success. If they force him into the cookie cutter mold that they have tried with the other Idols, he won’t do so well we fear, that is until his contract is up with them, and he can get signed to someone who will let him be himself.

Other than our number one man from the beginning winning, the show was a bit of a drag. One Republic was good, as well as Carrie Underwood, and the montages were funny, especially the Guitar Hero commercial with David Cook...Hello! But the whole "Idol Cast" dressing alike and singing reminded us of a really bad Brady Bunch parody! If you are thinking about buying tickets to the upcoming tour, add about 10 more songs and dances just like what you saw last night and that is what you will get for your money. We’ll have to pass, thank you very much. We don't really understand why George Michael was chosen to be kind of a finale before the big announcement. We have never understood how the higher ups at Idol choose their guests, but he did do a good job. It was a moving performance.

So now we end another season of American Idol. Lets hope that David Cook will do us proud. Enjoy David's commercial for Guitar Hero and his winning moment from last night. Thanks to all of you who took time to read our blog and comment this season. Maybe we’ll be back next year.

I agree, it was great and hilarious, and last night with the band and cheerleaders.... The guy is brave for auditioning dressed and singing like that, but it's the funniest i've seen!

For "Just A Girl Today" I'm guessing you must have accidently deleted your comment. It says it was deleted by the author. I did not delete it.

Is anyone else having problems posting comments? Anyone? If so, someone please e-mail me. :) Thanks.
