Bon Jovi Night on American Idol

by guest bloggers Becky and Bethany

Last night on American Idol, the battle for the prize was back on. Jon Bon Jovi and David Bryan, from Bon Jovi, were the guest “mentors” on the show.

Yeah! Bon Jovi rocks!

Before we get to the Idol breakdown, we need a moment to reflect on Jordin’s comment that that "her mom grew up with Bon Jovi,” and that LaKisha had never heard any of Bon Jovi’s songs. Talk about feeling dated. I guess we’ve reached that stage in our lives where the great songs of our youth are now on classic radio stations. Please give us a moment…

OK, enough with the mid-life crisis.

Phil was AWESOME! Regardless of what Simon says and Phil’s bald head and weird eyebrows, the guy blew us away with his “Blaze of Glory” rendition. He was our favorite of the evening.

Melinda, though it was not her genre of music, showed that she could sing. Jordin, on the other hand, showed her weakness last night. She is still our top pick, but she did stumble a bit.

Blake did an interesting version of “You Give Love a Bad Name” that, well, was interesting. A little weird, but it was good. The only part that we didn’t care for was the beat boppin’ in the middle; the rest of the version was good.

LaKisha, though she sang well and got a lovely smooch from Simon, just didn’t do much for us and will probably be sent back to the bank teller window tonight. And Chris Richardson probably should have spent more time working on his vocals over the weekend, instead of hitting all the Hollywood night spots, because he was mediocre at best.

It’s crunch time folks. It will be interesting to see tonight’s show.

OK ladies...first, it's beat boxin', not boppin'...guess you didn't listen to alot of old school rap back in the day :)

I was disappointed last night that nobody did Bad Medicine...what a great song...or Bed of Roses...anyway...

Jordin struggled but she's still my favorite...Blake was flat out awesome, though...

Most embarrasing moment of the night...hearing Phiul talk about singing "Blaze of Glory" into a hairbrush in the mirror...letting us know, once and for all, that he had hair at some point (unless he used the brush for those unruly eyebrows)...this was embarrasing because I used to do the same thing...ugh

Whether you call it beat boxin' or beat boppin' I have to say that what he did to the sanctity of Bon Jovi hurts. Sorry guys, but that was PAINFUL. You just don't do that to the Bonjer! This isn't rap-style music.

I just watched it on You Tube, and he did a good job when he sang the traditional way. But, I hated his hip-hop version of it. I guess I'm alone here, but that's nothing new. :)

Does anyone know where I can watch LaKisha's song from last night? I'm anxious to hear the song that made Simon want to kiss her.

gee Becky, I was just kidding...

TTG, did you actually call him "The Bonjer"?...and let's not go overboard with talk of sanctity, here...this is, after all, a man who has probably used ten times his weight in Aquanet over his lifetime...

I'm not sure who got the shorter end of the stick on the kiss...neither Simon nor LaKisha would be high on my list of people to kiss...who got the worse end of it there?

Tim, I used to sing in to my hairbrush, too. I did "Shot Through the Heart" and "Blaze of Glory" though. It was tight.

sorry for being a bit too sarcastic tim

Yes, that is how my college roomates and I belovedly referred to him and his "Aquanet 'do." The Bonjer (Prounounced, "Bon-Jur.")

"Laywergirl," are you out there anywhere to back me up on this?

Even though I was only 13 at the time, I did a killin rendition of "Blaze of Glory", Young Guns was one of my favorite movies.

Of course I also wanted to marry Emilio Estevez, but then he went and married Paula!

My ultimate hairbrush song was "Every Rose Has it Thorn" by Poison...I rocked...I had thousands of pretend hotel room keys tossed on-stage after that one...I think the first song I ever sang into the mirror, though, was "Jessie's Girl"...ah, those were the days

the problem with on-line sarcasm, Becky, is that it's sometimes hard to pick up on :)...my bad

Bonjur...lol

Oh God, I can't wait for the Results Show post...wow...How is LaKisha still around (this, by the way, coming from someone who hates Phil)...and what the hell happened to Bon Jovi?...could they have been any lamer?

I LOVED Young Guns. In fact, my college roomates and I used Emilio's voice from the movie/soundtrack on our answering machine to record a fun message, I think...lawyergirl, I"m having a brain melt. Do you remember this or did I kill too many brain cells and am just making this up? Didn't people used to call and hang up just to hear our message?
